Transitional Small Powder Room – One Room Challenge Reveal
IT’S FINALLY HERE, THE ONE ROOM CHALLENGE REVEAL DAY! And I’m ready for a nice glass of wine and a really, long soak in the tub – well, not in this room since it’s the size of a cracker jax box AND doesn’t contain a tub, haha.
Side note: Seriously, I didn’t realize how small we made this powder room when we built our house! Nor did I think about how difficult it would be to photograph… zero natural lighting and not enough room to get a shot of the vanity straight on, but hey – it looks gorgeous in person and that’s all that counts!

Transforming a room in six-weeks can get a little crazy at times, but I’m super excited it’s over and now I get to show you our new One Room Challenge Transitional Style Small Powder Room REVEAL!
This is my new powder room!
And what it looked like before. (I forgot to take a before picture – but picture this: plain walls, plain white toilet, plain white sink – can you envision this room. That’s right, it was PLAIN!)
So here’s actually what it looked like in-process:
The focal point of this room is THIS. GORGEOUS. WALLPAPER by Walls Need Love! This wall mural is called the Clara Wall Mural and is a removable, adhesive wallpaper. If you want a statement piece for one of your rooms, this is it!
My home and style is minimalistic and neutral in nature, but I love adding a few dramatic elements – like a gathering kitchen table (you can see it here), two cobalt blue sofas in the living room, and now this wall mural as you step into the entryway and catch a glimpse through the powder room door.
I LOVE wainscoting (which is the “picture frame” detail on the lower walls). Wainscoting is typically a traditional style, but since I wanted more of a modern twist I went with squares. Here’s what the finished wainscoting looks like.
And isn’t this the cutest little stool! I found it at Homegoods – they had two and I snagged both of them. The stool adds some texture to the space and provides a place for some reading material while doing –er business. I also like to incorporate wood into a space – like the legs on the stool and these gorgeous 24″ length maple floating shelves. For now these shelves are displaying some art, extra hand towels, plants and a daily reminder to be ‘grateful’ (BTW: the grateful lettering is a free printable by Aedriel, found here).
Across from the shelves are beautiful framed photographs my son took earlier this year while hiking Oysterdome Lookout in Bellingham, WA. These were originally going to go on the wall behind the door, but they are much better placed over the toilet – bridging the space between the pedestal sink and mural.
I went with a white pedestal sink, generally considered traditional, but I chose one that was rounded to give a little modern edge to it. Also due to the room size, I went with an oval mirror (even though my heart wanted round, sometimes you just have to let things go!). Added a simple hand towel from CB2, a design-inspired liquid soap (I bought solely for the pretty factor) and these GORGEOUS modern switches!
